A Play Date with Katy Perry

Katy PerryKaty Perry's songs have sold more than 32 million downloads. Her success is built on playful flirtation which she calls "the art of the tease". Perry is unstoppable with a runaway summer hit of California Girls, and Teenage Dream which went straight to Number One. She was then asked to make an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman.

She was greeted at the studio by hundreds of fans and paparazzi. Perry has become the most talked-about and photographed pop star on the planet.

Her recent duet with Elmo was bumped from Sesame Street when fans object to her excessive cleavage.

Asked if she was nervous, "No" she replies. "It's Cool". Asked if she likes to create waves sometimes. "Of course, I do. I'm from California."

Perry started singing at nine as a gospel singer. Her church bought her first guitar for her 13th birthday. Her parents, are born-again evangelical pastors. She was signed to a Nashville gospel lave and released her first album in 2001 under the name "Katy Hudson". She was signed and dropped by 2 labels.

Capitol picked her up, changed her name to Katy Perry and released "I Kissed a Girl" in 2008 which spent 7 weeks at Number One. She insists there's more to being a pop star than a change of dress or hair. It has to spawn from talent.

Just like meeting British comedian and actor Russell Brand who is now Perry's fiancee. They've become the the hot couple of the tabloids. Perry likes to create fireworks. Katy's career shows no sign of losing it's spark.
